Program Summary

Trying the Case & Getting Paid for it - Common Ethical Issues in Litigation

• The “billable hour” remains a cornerstone in setting attorney compensation, but with further pressure from clients to be billed for tangible effort and results, coupled with the internal professional pressure of documenting and accurately measuring time, alternative billing methods are being explored. Flat-fee and contingency agreements are being used in novel ways, opening up ethical dilemmas which will be discussed at this seminar.
• This seminar will explore ethical issues in attorney compensation, from the initial retainer to post-representation collection efforts. Substantial emphasis will also be focused on issues common to attorney-client communications and the litigation process.
• A review of the North Dakota Aspirations of Professionalism and Civility and how they apply to your practice.
• Can Denny Crane really say that in court? Ethical do’s and don’ts in trying a civil case.
